Liriodendron tulipifera
Tuliptree,Yellow poplar

This species bears an aggregate of samaras that are 2-3" long and brown, borne in a cone-like structure, much of which persists through the winter months. By spring, all that remains is the vertical central axis and a few narrow samaras. The samaras are long, thing and oblong.
