Magnolia acuminata
Cucumbertree magnolia

Greenish gray young stems turn reddish-brown as they mature with prominent circular bud-scale scars encircling the stem at each node. The stout and glabrous stems are fragrant when scratched, like most members of the Magnoliaceae family. The stems are also dotted with slightly elongated gray lenticels.
