Although interesting, the greenish yellow flowers do not stand out from the surrounding foliage. They appear in late May to early June, and have 6 large 3" tepals that form the narrow cup-like upright portion of the flower and 3 additional lower tepals which are about 1" long and horizontally borne below the larger tepals. Like all magnolia flowers, this species has numerous yellow stamens and is pollinated by beetles.
